Tips For Testing Students Using The CD

In each of the three sections, the program keeps track of correct and incorrect answers. At the end of each section, users can click on the "score" button to view their score. By clicking on the print button, they can enter their name and print out a record of their score.

Tip #1 Use the questions in Section 1 (Understanding The Basics) as a review quiz on basic concepts about electricity. The 10 questions are randomly selected from a larger file of questions, and will not be exactly the same for all users. This is an easy way for students (and teachers) to see what they have retained from class discussions or reading.

Tip #2 Make sure each student exits the program to reset the score sheet in that section. If another student begins the section without resetting, it will keep the original student's score in the record.

Tip #3 For more complicated circuits, such as three-way or four-way lighting circuits, have students trace out the connections on paper first. Then they can use it as a guide alongside the computer to reinforce the concepts in working the exercises.

Tip #4 There are three different configurations of three-way lighting circuits in Section 2 (Circuit Connections & Procedures). Use the first layout as an example to show students how to wire the circuit, then have them wire the last two layouts themselves and print out their score. Putting three or four students in a group to work the exercises is often helpful, and teaches the skill of teamwork.
